• 4.0 out of 5 stars from GFASTR -- Not an easy read : I chose this book because I have a background in motorsports. I also lost a son to alcoholism. I'm still searching for insight and understanding. To read Al's story is painful, sometimes heartbraking, and often frustrating. In a way Al was fortunate for so many "second chances". • 4.0 out of 5 stars from shag -- An honest account of lost opportunities and wasted talent : I watched Al win Long Beach so many times as a kid and played his Nintendo game. I knew about his later struggles but learned even more reading this. Roger Penske probably gave him more second chances than his own kids. There's some amusing anecdotes but it's a sad story, and he needs to tell it as part of his recovery. Al's hit rock bottom and this book is probably his last chance. One of the great racing stars of the 80’s and 90’s lays open his fall into physical and spiritual destruction. Race fans saw the public highs and lows; but this a great behind the scenes look at the truth of it all…and how Al is now beginning to put his life back together thru a relationship with the One who has loved him all along his journey! • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Wade -- Wow : I was a big fan of Al Jr when he was racing, like so many he was my favorite. I’m an even bigger fan now. Amazing story that reminds us the people we put on pedestals are human. Albeit highly talented ones, but human just the same. Good luck Al, I’m rooting for you now even more then when you were winning races. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from bmalec -- Nice balance of details and the "bigger picture" : I really got into CART racing in the early 90's, and Little Al was my favorite driver. This book did a great job of giving me additional details on his racing career, as well as his struggles with substance abuse which were much worse than I realized. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Sam Pick -- Highly recommend this as a book about racing and life 5 * : I was a massive Al Jr fan watching IndyCar during the 90's - always remember his run in with Nigel Mansell at Long Beach 1993. I love a racing books, but this book is so much more than just motor racing. Al writes really openly about his successes but also his struggles - which is rare in a sports biography. I learned so much about Al's racing (there are some awesome stories) but also about the man himself and his challenges - which are so useful and can be applied to my own live. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from DS -- Must read for any Indycar fan : Al Unser Jr was easily my favourite driver in the thriving 1990s Indycar series. I watched him fall from the biggest heights and had some idea that alcoholism was part of the story, but had no idea of the extent of his struggles. This book addresses them head on and in first person, and some parts are very sad and tough to read. I am fortunate that he has found a way forward from his past.
